The History of YNPN Seattle
In 2008, the precursor to YNPN Seattle, YNPN Puget Sound was founded. A chapter of the international organization Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN), members came from Seattle and Tacoma. Although the chapter closed within a few years, there was always a desire and a need for an organization to serve the YPs in the nonprofit sector.
In 2012, a start-up chapter was established with a new board made up representing Seattle. This chapter was called “YNPN Greater Seattle”.
In 2018, to better reflect our membership, event attendees and event location, the chapter was renamed “YNPN Seattle”.
We’ve remained steadfast in our mission to support young professionals in the nonprofit sector with regular partnerships, networking events, workshops, “real talk” conversations, book clubs and more.
The Board has consistently presented at local conferences such as the Engaged Employers Symposium (2021) and the Washington State Nonprofits Conference (2017-2024).
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, YNPN Seattle transitioned to virtual events, instituted a paid speaker compensation policy, and created a paid membership policy.
YNPN Seattle celebrated 10 years of service in 2022, with the first in-person event after the COVID-19 closures. The organization slowly began hosting more in-person events in addition to virtual workshops and “real talks”.
In 2024, YNPN Seattle became fiscally sponsored by Angels for Angels and has transitioned to a co-leadership model.
